David González
Chief Oenologist at Chivite
Born in Burgos in 1973, David González is a Technical Agricultural Engineer and holds a degree in Enology from the University of La Rioja, along with a master’s in business administration (MBA) from ICADE. Additionally, he is an Associate Professor at the University of La Rioja, where he teaches in the Enology degree program and the official master’s program.
David’s first teacher in enology and viticulture was his grandfather. Originating from Villalmanzo, in the D.O. Arlanza (Burgos), as a child, he helped his grandfather make claretes (rosé wines from various grape varieties) in cave-cellars for family consumption. From him, he learned to prune, ferment, clean, and most importantly, he inherited a deep sensitivity for the world of wine.
With over 25 years of experience in the wine industry, having made his mark in renowned wineries across important Spanish wine regions such as Ribera del Duero and Rioja, David González joined Chivite in 2023, taking on the role of Technical Director. In this project, González is committed to preserving the enological excellence and historical values that distinguish the renowned Navarrese brand. His involvement not only reinforces these principles but also adds value by incorporating his land-focused vision and contemporary philosophy.
Discussing Chivite, David González remarks: “Chivite’s distinctiveness lies in its ability to adapt while maintaining its identity. The winery has skillfully interpreted the landscapes between its historical roots and modernity, consistently positioning itself at the forefront of development. Within this context of continuous creativity, Chivite has excelled in producing wines that reflect a balance between authenticity and diversity, setting a standard in the industry. This innovative capacity, coupled with profound respect for its heritage and land, convert Chivite a truly exceptional winery.”
