The Winery
The Alta Alella vineyards are planted on slopes and terraces between 100 and 250 meters above sea level and grow in Sauló, a sandy soil of decomposing granite characterized by excellent drainage and low organic matter, which gives the wines a very good natural acidity. The winery is distinguished by its constant innovation (producers of the first sulfite-free Cava, research into resistant varieties and adapted to climate change, pioneers in wine tourism, among other achievements) and its commitment to excellence.
They produce organic wines without added sulfites within the appellations DO Alella and DO Cava (Comtats de Barcelona – Serra de Mar), which stand out for their authenticity and their ability to convey the unique character of their origin. Within the DO Cava, in 2017 the Vallcirera vineyard was certified with the superior category Paraje Calificado (single vineyard-Grand cru), and in 2022 they received the quality stamp Integral Producer, which recognizes producers who make their wines 100% on the estate.

The Enviroment
The Alta Alella vineyards are located in the Serralada de Marina Natural Park, 10 km from Barcelona and 1,500 m from the Mediterranean Sea, within the territory of the DO Alella and the Serra de Mar subzone (Comtats de Barcelona) of the DO Cava.
The winery cultivates microvinifications, maintaining the orography and the forest areas surrounding the vineyards, even if they have to work on slopes, in order to maintain the soil structure, have better ventilation, facilitate the drainage of the soil and improve the concentration of the grapes. Other benefits of this type of agriculture are land management, conservation of biodiversity and the local ecosystem, and the preservation of a natural site in the surrounding area of Barcelona, which is under heavy housing development pressure.
The Serralada de Marina Natural Park is a protected area covering an area of approximately 3,000 ha. It has a typical Mediterranean coastal climate, with an average temperature of 15ºC and average rainfall of 550mm/year. The sunny side facing the sea, where the Alta Alella vineyards are located, is dominated by vegetation typical of dry areas, with shrubs (such as rosemary, thyme or aladierna), herbaceous plants (such as fennel or sea alder), and trees (such as the stone pine). In the area there are species of fauna typical of open spaces, some of them quite rare in Catalonia, as is the case of certain trans-Saharan migratory birds.
