In 2002 the Spanish government awarded the Valdepusa Estate the first single vineyard estate Denomination of Origin status. In 2003 this award was upheld by the European Union, making Valdepusa the first Spanish estate to receive recognition similar to that of mythical winemaking estates such as Romanée-Conti or Sassicaia. Dominio de Valdepusa is a unique wine estate which occupies an area of 52 hectares, including the original vineyard (14 hectares) of Cabernet Sauvignon planted in 1974. Since 1991, this has been extended progressively to include Syrah and Petit Verdot plantations, both pioneering efforts in Spain. Graciano is also planted. Our wines are regular award winners at international wine contests and the subject of wine guides as well as articles in national and international press written by experts who recognize the efforts being made here in the name of great Spanish wines.
